Dear Families,

Greetings! My name is Ms. LaTriena Pitts, and I am excited to welcome you and your child to third grade at Montgomery Elementary School.

Originally from Auburn, Alabama, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Alabama A&M University in Normal (Huntsville), Alabama. One of my most memorable teaching experiences was at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, where I taught Space History—past, present, and future—before moving to Georgia nearly 24 years ago.

In 2007, I earned my Master’s degree in Technology in Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and continued my studies to receive a Specialist degree in the same field in 2010. In 2011, I also received my Gifted Teacher Certification, and I continue to find joy in working with students of all abilities.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege to work with several organizations, including Lockheed Martin, where I served as the Lead Teacher for Aviation Camp. Within the DeKalb County School District, I’ve proudly served as a District Science Trainer, taught 4th grade for 10 years (including three years as grade chair at Canby Lane Elementary), and spent seven years teaching 3rd grade right here at Montgomery Elementary.

Most recently, I served as Montgomery’s Innovation Lab teacher, leading students through engaging, hands-on STEM and technology lessons for another seven years. I also have experience teaching ESOL students, including leading summer school classes where I provided targeted language and academic support to help multilingual learners thrive.

Now, I’m thrilled to return to the 3rd-grade classroom where my passion for early learning, science, literacy, and technology can come together in fun and meaningful ways!

I truly believe teaching is a team effort, and together, we will ensure that your child thrives academically, socially, and emotionally this school year. I’m here to support your child and your family every step of the way.
